Starting in 1937, The Boone County Museum of History was first organized by passionate citizens who saw the importance of preserving our county’s history. In 1968, a building was purchased to house the artifacts collected and display them to the public for the first time. We are proudly located in downtown Belvidere and house over 100,000 artifacts, exhibit over 20 interactive displays and run a research library with over 5,000 document resources.

Our Mission

The mission of the Boone County Historical Society is to stimulate interest in Boone County history through education, research and artifacts and archival materials.

This is an amazing collection, beautifully displayed, and there is a lot to take in. One short visit was enough to convince me to come back and spend a lot more time. If you haven’t visited this treasure in nearby Belvidere, it is a MUST SEE.
